MINI WHISTLER VACATION

One day I received  an email from Jaunt,  I had not heard of Jaunt before but they were offering what appeared to be  a good deal in Whistler. The deal was $249.00 for a two night stay at the Aava resort. They also gave you $50.00 gift certificate at The White Spot which is located at their resort and 2 tickets on the peak to peak gondola which were worth close to hundred bucks . So after some checking we decided to go for it.. So glad we did. http://www.jaunt.ca/index.php?_page=home&w=162. We had a picnic here on our way up.

This is the view. On the day we leave there will be 7000 bike riders arriving and they will ride right by here. We could not get a photo they are going so darn fast. It only took them 2.5 hours to get from Vancouver to Whistler which is 76 miles (123 km). This is up and down huge hills.
This shower was different, the glass only goes as far as you see in the photo, the shower is twice that size but other side is wide open.. rather drafty lol

The weather was mid 30's so the pool was well used, well at least by us :)

This was dinner accompanied with a bottle or red wine, we had to use the gift certificate at one sitting.
We needed doggie bag

Of course a night cap lounging  in the complementary robes
The next day we had left over burgers for breakfast and headed out to the gondola we wanted an early start because it was going to be might hot.

This is the first part of the gondola ride - it was not busy we just walked up and got on the next car, had it all to ourselves  behind us several guys with bikes got in. You can see in this photo part of the trails made for the dirt bike riders. It is quite elaborate.

Car full of bikers and their bikes, below is another way for them to get up the mountain, special racks for the bikes.

This is the second part of the trip the Peak to Peak gondola from the top of  Whistler Mountain to the top of Blackcomb. It the following photos you will see the car go from one tower almost 3 miles until the next tower, you  ride the cable down into the valley. It was quite amazing the photos do not do justice to the scenery. It was awe inspiring. There will be photos of some of the stats.

This is the cable we ride

Huge towers
You can see the ski runs

Top of Blackcomb

Not much of of the Glacier remains
Chicken wings and onion rings were dinner that night, hung out where the locals hang out.
As we were driving out to head home the second wave of bike racers arrived.
We went home via Lillolet it was a much longer drive but we saw all sorts of different types of scenery.

We found this nice place for a picnic

If you look closely you can see a difference in the river colour where the Thompson meets the Fraser River
To quote my great grandmother Janie Miller in the early 1900's after she had made a trip from Ontario to Vancouver.
"People don't need to travel to Switzerland to see wonderful scenery, see Canada first"
